This is Hero. A friend of mine rescued her. Hero taught me a lot about rescue dogs and the bonds you can build with them. I haven't forgotten her. 

 

I spent a year volunteering at a dog shelter. When given the chance, shelter dogs open up in unexpected ways, just like Hero did with me. My shelter dogs project is a candid photo library. On field trips outside the shelter, I anticipated and captured what they gave me. These pictures may not be perfect, but the dogs in them are. Many of them were or had been at the shelter for months waiting to find forever homes. They are the true heroes.

 

It just takes someone willing to give these dogs the time, attention, and love they deserve to become the best they can be. Adopt, foster, donate to, or volunteer at your local animal shelter. Help rescue a dog to become a hero to another Hero. Can you guess which one I took home?
